
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Obtain Nevada Class C Driver’s License with “F” endorsement within 6 months of appointment.
- Obtain a Paramedic license*
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): CPR certification, National Registry EMT (NREMT) or State of Nevada EMT License.*
- Current CPAT, completed prior to you applying for a position with TMFPD. (Candidate Physical Ability Test) – Any official CPAT location is acceptable such as https://www.fctconline.org/cpat/ or https://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/exams.cfm
- Written Exam through the National Testing Network (NTN), completed prior to you applying for a position with TMFPD at https://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/search.cfm?position=2&state=NEVADA
Steps of the recruitment process with TMFPD
- Apply for TMFPD through the National Testing Network (NTN) and take written exam (expires one year from test date)
- Take CPAT (expires one year from test date)

- Attach all required documentation, only attach requested documents!!
- If you meet and pass all requirements, you will be placed on an eligible list, ranked by score. The top scoring candidates are invited to interview.
- Successfully complete an interview with TMFPD
- If you are already a paramedic you will be required to complete and pass the EMS assessment center.
- If selected and offered a position, you will be required to complete the District’s Fire Academy, acquiring Fire Fighter I and II Certifications.
- Complete a one year probationary period from the end of academy.
- Employees hired after May 1, 2024, must successfully complete and pass an accredited Paramedic program within 36 months of employment with the District, at the employee’s expense, with district assistance in scheduling needs. Employees must pass the TMFPD skills assessment within 12 months of obtaining State of Nevada or National Registry Paramedic certification..
* How to Become an Emergency Medical Technician
- Become an EMT-Basic, classes may be available at REMSA, TMCC, and through various online outlets. EMT-Basic is currently the minimum requirement for the Firefighter/EMT position.
- Become an EMT-Intermediate, classes may be available at REMSA, TMCC, and through various online outlets.
- Apply for paramedic school, classes may be available at REMSA, TMCC, and through various online outlets. Paramedic school is approximately a 2-year process of hard work and studying.
- Pursue and obtain some experience by working in the field which may include volunteer firefighting, etc.
