Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is seeking experienced Firefighter/Paramedics to join our team through our Lateral Firefighter/Paramedic recruitment. This opportunity is designed for experienced fire service professionals who are ready to bring their training, skills, and operational experience to a progressive all-risk fire district serving Northern Nevada.
Lateral Firefighter/Paramedics perform structural and wildland firefighting, provide advanced life support emergency medical care, and respond to rescue, hazardous materials, and other emergency and public-assistance incidents. They are integral to maintaining operational readiness and providing professional, responsive, and effective fire-rescue services across TMFPD’s diverse service area.

TMFPD offers experienced Firefighter/Paramedics the opportunity to continue building their fire service careers through structural and wildland firefighting, ALS EMS and ambulance operations, the Regional HazMat Team, Water Entry Team (WET), and qualified wildland and all-hazard overhead assignments, including REMS, IMTs, dozers, and other off-District opportunities.
TMFPD Firefighter/Paramedics work a 48/96 schedule and are represented by IAFF Local 2487. The District provides 100% employee medical coverage and 50% dependent medical coverage, Nevada PERS retirement, and no Nevada state income tax on wages. Lateral candidates with at least one year of qualifying experience begin at $28.98 per hour, with additional qualifying experience potentially eligible for higher step placement.

Position Overview
Under general supervision, the Firefighter/Paramedic performs firefighting activities in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires; provides advanced emergency medical care; responds to emergency and public-assistance incidents; and performs related work as required.
- Respond to structure, wildland, rescue, medical, hazardous-material, and public-assistance incidents.
- Provide advanced emergency medical care at the paramedic level.
- Operate specialized firefighting, rescue, EMS, and wildland equipment.
- Participate in training, fire prevention, public education, and station activities.
- Prepare and maintain records, maps, and reports.
Required Experience
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
- Completion of the Firefighter probationary period with the applicant's current employer.
- At least one year of current, full-time, continuous employment as a Firefighter/Paramedic. The one year of experience may include probationary time.
- Experience with a public fire district, agency, authority, or department that provides all-risk Fire/EMS services.
Required at Time of Application
- Valid driver's license.
- State of Nevada or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification.
- CPR certification with a hands-on skills assessment.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current Firefighter I certification meeting NFPA, IFSAC, ProBoard, or equivalent standards.

Required After Appointment or by Completion of the Lateral Academy
- Successfully complete the District's Lateral Academy.
- Obtain Firefighter II certification meeting NFPA standards by the end of the academy.
- Possess NWCG S-130 and S-190 certifications by the end of the academy.
- Obtain a Nevada Class C driver's license with an F endorsement, or equivalent, within six months of appointment.
Selection Process
The selection process will include application screening, assessment center exercises, and interviews. Final candidates will be required to complete a background investigation and medical evaluation.
