How to Become a Firefighter/Paramedic with TMFR
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • State of Nevada or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Paramedic certification.
  • CPR with hands-on skills assessment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Current CPAT, completed prior to you applying for a position with TMFPD. (Candidate Physical Ability Test) – Any official CPAT location is acceptable such as https://www.fctconline.org/cpat/ or https://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/exams.cfm 
  • Written Exam through the National Testing Network (NTN), completed prior to you applying for a position with TMFPD at https://www.nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/search.cfm?position=2&state=NEVADA
  • Must successfully complete District’s Fire Academy and obtain Firefighter I and II certifications, which meets NFPA standards by end of academy.
  • Obtain Nevada Class C Driver’s License with “F” endorsement within 6 months of appointment.

Steps of the recruitment process with TMFPD

  • Apply for TMFPD through the National Testing Network (NTN) and take written exam (expires one year from test date)
  • Take CPAT (expires one year from test date)
  • After completing CPAT and written exam, apply on District website at https://www.governmentjobs.com:443/careers/tmfpd/?visitor=829b07ac-2588-46e5-bb64-c8add9322784&session=722d85b7-0fe2-4a6d-a396-aab26b25b840
  • Attach all required documentation listed on job announcement, only attach requested documents!!
  • If you meet and pass all requirements, you will be placed on an eligible list, ranked by score.  The top scoring candidates are invited to interview.
  • Successfully complete an interview with TMFPD
  • Successfully complete and pass the EMS assessment center.
  • If selected and offered a position, you will be required to complete the District’s Fire Academy, acquiring Fire Fighter I and II Certifications.
  • Complete a one year probationary period from the end of academy.

* How to Become a Paramedic

  • Become a paramedic, classes may be available at REMSA, TMCC, and through various online outlets.  Paramedic school is approximately a 2-year process of hard work and studying.

* Not required but suggested

  • Become an EMT-Basic, if desired, classes may be available at REMSA, TMCC, and through various online outlets. 
  • Become an EMT-Intermediate, if desired, classes may be available at REMSA, TMCC, and through various online outlets.
  • Pursue and obtain some experience by working in the field which may include volunteer firefighting, Remsa, Paramedic in a medical setting, etc.
